About This Video
The video starts off with Bald on a 7-hour stopover in the Philippines, feeling jetlagged and sick, but deciding to use the time to visit Happy Land, a rough slum area of Manila. He finds a motorbike taxi driver named Moses who takes him in, and almost immediately Bald is meeting locals, drinking the local cheap brandy Emperador, buying some for men hanging out in the neighborhood, and walking through crowded alleyways near the port. He talks about Manila’s history as a trading hub, sees families living in very cramped conditions, passes local shops, laundry services, pay-per-use Wi-Fi boxes, recycling areas, and buys treats for a growing crowd of kids.
Then he goes deeper into Happy Land, where the mood gets chaotic but mostly friendly: kids swarm him, call him “Johnny Sins” and “Calvo,” touch his bald head, and guide him through poorer side streets with open sewage and tiny homes. He meets a local named Jesse, visits Jesse’s upstairs room, sees how basic the living conditions are, and reflects on how people in the West complain about small inconveniences while others live without even a mattress. The video ends with Bald leaving Happy Land, briefly stopping at a seafood restaurant with Ben and Timmy, joking with the staff, and saying goodbye to the Philippines before heading back to the airport for his next mystery destination.
