About This Video

In this episode, Seal On Tour heads into northern Laos on a rough motorbike journey toward the hill tribe region, framing the country as a raw, unpredictable place full of roadside mystery meat, homemade alcohol, dirt roads, and spontaneous encounters. He and Jacob begin by stopping for petrol, checking out an old bus terminal, and riding through remote villages where people greet them warmly despite the isolation. Along the way, they buy and eat grilled rat from a roadside vendor, pass stilt homes and small hill communities, join a group of local women drinking fermented barley through shared straws, and push through increasingly muddy, sandy, and difficult roads as the landscape shifts into misty mountains and Chinese-influenced border towns.

The trip becomes more chaotic when they buy a live rodent from local kids to save it from being eaten, name it Rufus, struggle to untie it without getting bitten, and eventually release it into a field. After a night in a basic guesthouse, they continue deeper north, stopping for coffee, noodle soup, roadside snacks, and more strange animal encounters before arriving in Muang Long, near the Chinese border. There they meet their guide Da and crash a massive Lao wedding, where Seal quickly learns that empty glasses are constantly refilled and that the party culture is built around nonstop beer, dancing, food, and hospitality. After visiting the Akha tribes in the next video, the episode loops back to the return journey toward Vientiane, where they rescue another live animal from a roadside stand, encounter sellers with rats, bats, squirrels, porcupine parts, and possible bear gallbladder, and finally try cooked bat. Overall, the video plays like a chaotic love letter to Laos: strange, welcoming, funny, uncomfortable, beautiful, and full of moments that could only happen far off the usual Southeast Asia travel route.
