About This Video

In this Sabbatical video, the journey begins with the creator traveling by train into Kyiv, entering a country actively at war and immediately confronting air raid sirens, sold-out evacuation trains, and the daily routines Ukrainians have adapted to under threat. In Kyiv, he visits Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti), explores the deep underground metro stations used as bomb shelters, encounters displays of captured Russian military equipment, and visits museums documenting both World War II and the current conflict. Through conversations with locals, he highlights how life continues amid alerts—people commuting, eating borscht, jogging, and socializing—while the city balances historical beauty, Soviet remnants, and a constant sense of danger.

From Kyiv, the journey moves outward to a rural village near the Dnipro River, emphasizing Ukraine’s agricultural heartland and the strategic importance of the river that divides the country. He then travels south by sleeper train to Odesa, Ukraine’s vital Black Sea port, where missile damage, boarded-up buildings, and frequent drone attacks contrast sharply with beaches, fishermen, resorts, and everyday life along the waterfront. After touring Odesa’s historic monuments and coastal neighborhoods, the trip concludes with a bus and ferry crossing over the Danube River into Romania, marking his exit from Ukraine. The video closes with a reflective tribute to Ukraine’s geography, cities, and especially its people, portraying a nation defined not only by war, but by resilience, normalcy, and quiet defiance.
