About This Video

The video starts off with Seal and his friend Andrew continuing their attempt to cross the Amazon, moving from the Ecuadorian-Peruvian border toward Iquitos. They get stamped into Peru, eat a simple local meal, then wake up at 4:30 a.m. to board a boat deeper into the Peruvian Amazon. Along the way, they stop at a riverside home for lunch, try jungle meat like wild boar/peccary, and then arrive in Santa Clotilde, a small Amazonian town where they look for a place to sleep. What first seems like a quaint jungle stop quickly turns rough: the hotels are extremely basic, there is no electricity in the community, the shower barely works, and they end up drinking beer with the hotel owner while joking about how there is almost nothing to do except drink and eat mystery meat.

Then the mood gets darker as Seal and Andrew describe disturbing social problems in the area, especially around exploitation and predatory behavior, while still showing ordinary town life like street soccer, moto-taxis, candlelit food stalls, and Amazonian fish wrapped in leaves. The next morning, they leave at 2:30 a.m. by boat, travel through Mazan, cross the isthmus between the Napo River and the Amazon River, and board another boat toward Iquitos. The video ends with them arriving in Iquitos, where Andrew shows Seal his apartment and they reflect that they’ve made it from the Ecuadorian coast through the jungle into Peru, with the larger goal still being to cross the Amazon all the way to Brazil.
